Hot Sushi is a band from Utrecht that was formed by leading lady Suzanne van Amelsvoort. She composes her songs in cooperation with her band and performs these songs with heart and soul. Her characteristics are the rock-and-roll rawness and the vulnerability of old blues and soul. Hot Sushi is intimate but ‘in your face’ at the same time. Even though Suzanne stays true to herself in her songs, she is constantly is trying to transcend what she already is. Once on stage she will lure the audience into her world.
At the age of fourteen Suzanne was already practicing with an all-girl band. Smoking joints secretly and skipping school on a regular basis acquainted her with the world of Rock & Roll. In the first couple of years she had to sing without a microphone due to lack of money. This ultimately resulted in the occasional sore throat but more importantly; a powerful voice, which could remind you of singers like Janis Joplin, Skin (Skunk Anansie) and Sass Jordan.
As she discovered different kinds of music, her love for music grew. Alanis Morissette, Pearl Jam and Nirvana influenced her and later old-timers such as Blondie, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, AC/DC and The Doors. Suzanne’s writing is remarkable. Everything she does, everything she is, everything she feels, is reflected in her writing and it cuts right through the soul without being melodramatic.
In 2006 she decided to use her lyrics to tell her story in a rock opera, which was clearly inspired by The Who and Pink Floyd. The show was titled Hot Sushi and it goes without saying that the name of the band was born here. Suzanne never stopped writing and over the past five years she has expanded her repertoire in such a way that her show is a compelling rock show. Suzanne does not have to bite her tongue in this band, she feels at ease and speaks her mind, in her writing, in her singing, in her performance.
Hot Sushi decided to hit the studio this year. The release of their EP “Love Us All Rock & Roll” is scheduled for November 2011. Whoever gets in touch with Hot Sushi’s music will be blown away!

Dit doet ze met de rauwheid van rock & roll en de kwetsbaarheid van de oude blues en soul. Hot Sushi is intiem en ‘in your face’ tegelijk.
In haar liedjes blijft Suzanne heel dicht bij zichzelf, maar tegelijkertijd is ze constant op zoek om zichzelf te overstijgen. Als ze op het podium staat sleept ze het publiek mee in haar wereld.
Toen Suzanne veertien was, stond ze al in de oefenruimte met haar meidenband. Stiekem jointjes rokend en spijbelend zette ze haar eerste voetstappen in de wereld van de Rock & Roll. Omdat ze geen geld had voor een microfoon zong ze de eerste jaren van haar carrière zonder versterking met de band mee. Dit bezorgde haar, behalve zo nu en dan een zere keel, een strot met een enorm volume en een geluid waarmee ze doet denken aan zangeressen als Janis Joplin, Skin (Skunk Anansie) en Sass Jordan.
Ze ontdekte allerlei muziekstijlen en artiesten en zo groeide haar liefde voor muziek. Ze liet ze zich onder meer inspireren door Alanis Morissette, Pearl Jam, Nirvana en later ook door oude rotten zoals Blondie, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, AC/DC en The Doors. Met het schrijven van haar eigen songs legt Suzanne ziel en zaligheid bloot, haar teksten hebben altijd een persoonlijke ondertoon waarin ze laat horen en voelen waar ze mee worstelt. Haar teksten raken je in het hart zonder melodramatisch te worden.
Geïnspireerd door The Who en Pink Floyd gebruikte Suzanne in 2006 haar teksten om haar verhaal te vertellen in een rockopera. De show werd Hot Sushi getiteld en daar vond haar bandnaam zijn oorsprong. In de afgelopen vijf jaar is Suzanne blijven schrijven en heeft ze haar repertoire langzaam uitgebreid tot een meeslepende en rockende show. In deze band kan Suzanne (letterlijk) het achterste van haar tong laten zien en voelt ze zich thuis.
Dit jaar besloot Hot Sushi de studio in te gaan. In november treedt de band de wijde wereld in met de EP ‘Love Us All Rock & Roll’. Hot Sushi zal wie het hoort en ziet omver blazen!
